“Playmates”

The work places a smaller composition within a broad, deeply textured purple field. Inside, a loosely formed figure and animal-like shape emerge through layers of gray, white, red, green, and orange against a bright yellow background. The rough application of paint allows the forms to remain partly abstract while still suggesting a relationship between the two figures.
I approached the piece through texture and suggestion, allowing the figures to develop from irregular marks and overlapping colors. The surrounding purple space acts almost like a frame within the painting, separating this small scene from the space around it.
