“Shemee” is a mixed-media work in acrylic paint and gel pen on canvas.
The portrait centers on a woman framed by layers of patterned hair created with repeated lines, loops, and marks in muted blues, browns, reds, greens, and neutral tones. I used the gel pen to build detail and rhythm throughout the hair, contrasting its intricate patterns with the softer treatment of the face.
The work depicts a longtime friend caught in a quiet moment of reflection and contemplation on life.
